Course Overview

At Epic Ventures, we offer a 9 week long Instructor Training Course designed to provide aspiring Outdoor Professionals with the necessary qualifications to begin work in the adventure activity industry.

The course is full time based on a compulsory 5 day week with residential or non residential options, involving a lot of hard work both practical and theory based. Training days will run from Monday to Friday with the weekends left for the students to use as they see fit. This can be either ‘rest and relaxation’ (you may need this!) or those wishing to venture on can head out for some further optional consolidation days with the course tutors.

Our company focuses primarily on paddlesports. We use our proximity to the Firth of Forth and a number of exciting rivers to our full advantage. This is reflected in the training that we offer. By the end of the course we expect our trainees to be confident paddlers who are capable in sea kayaks, canoes and white water kayaks. Trainees will be given the opportunity to gain qualifications in each of these disciplines and a chance to become paddlesport coaches.

Rock Climbing

Trainees will also receive lots of coaching on their rock climbing skills with trips to Edinburgh's indoor walls and local outdoor crag venues. By the end of the course they will have had the chance to gain a qualification in the sport and will have run sessions with real groups.

Additional Skills

Trainees will also be shown how to deliver additional sessions commonly found in the multi-activity centre environment such as orienteering and team building.

Living Arrangements

We offer residential and non-residential options for our course. Those trainees who choose the residential option will be housed in shared self-catering accommodation in West Linton, a small village just outside Edinburgh.

A vehicle will be provided for the shared use of all trainees as well as the use of company equipment on their days off.
