Duke of Edinburgh's Award Canoe Expeditions

All levels receive the same training* programme prior to the expeditions. This includes:
  • 3 half day training sessions on the Union Canal practicing paddling skills and techniques, water safety and basic rescue skills.
  • 2 evening sessions (class room based) looking at river navigation, journey planning, water features and hazards, expedition equipment and maintenance.
  • 2 one day trips (eg. the River Tweed or Loch Tay) including moving water techniques, hazard identification, land and water based rescues.
The course also includes the practice and assessment expeditions:
  • Bronze - Two day practice, two day assessment.
  • Silver - Three day practice, three day assessment.
  • Gold - Three day practice, four day assessment.
Bronze price: £300/person (based on a group of 8)

Silver price: £395/person (based on a group of 8)

Gold price: £430/person (based on a group of 8)

All prices include instruction, equipment hire and transport for the river trips and expeditions.

Groups who have already done canoeing at Silver Level may be able to reduce the amount of training required for Gold.
